Guild Wars - Nightfall

I've pretty much given up on WoW but I have new hope with the release of Guild Wars.  Given the no monthly fee model I can pick up and start the game anytime.  With the improved graphics and classes this one looks to be very promising.  I got a copy for myself and for my cousins.  This christmas will be a very busy weekend! :)

Heated vest

After waiting for the bus and train this morning in the extreme cold I decided to get a heated vest. It stayed in my head after watching an episode of I Want That! Tech Toys.

After looking at a few brands and reviews I think I'm going to spring for the Jett one.

Here is a review of it: Jett Battery Heated Vest

User reviews of this product: User reviews of the Jett Battery Heated Vest

You can purchase it from here: Jett Performance Products Pty Ltd

The total came out to be AUS $320.00. After a 1.26 (AUS -> US) conversion it came out to be around $250. It's a bit high but if as promised by all the reviews that's definitely worth it since the winters are extremely harsh here.

A site dedicated to broken equipment due to the Wii remote

Quite a funny read. The Wii is absolutely awesome though.

Funny thing happened over the weekend. My father-in-law, father and my pregnant wife (limited playing) who never plays any type of games (computer or console) played it for 2 hours. It felt like the twilight zone in an alternate dimension!!!

The Wii must have done something right with this one to be able to close the generation gap between my father & myself and with the younger cousins. For the mathematically-challenged that's 2 generations! 3 if you count the in-laws.

If you're curious they played the bowling and tennis games. No only if they had a camera on the Wii (which I'm sure will come as an attachment) to record them for evidence and prosperity.

Philips DVP5960 1080i DVD Player with HDMI

A great dvd player along the lines of the Philips DVP642. This however was made for HDTV and will upscale any non 1080i content. My favorite feature is the USB support where you can play movies off a USB device such as a thumbdrive. No more burning movies to DVD for me!

Here's the DVP5960 manual

Here's the region free info for it.

Region code hack posted by nexus6, May 11 2006:
This hack was successfully applied to the Philips DVP5960/37.
It is the same hack as with the Philips DVP5140:
1. Turn on the unit
2. Open the loading tray
3. Press the "Setup" button on the remote
4. Navigate to the "Preferences" page using the right arrow key
5. Enter 138931
6. You will now see the current region code displayed
7. Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the region required or "0" for all regions
8. Press the "Setup" button on the remote
9. Press "OK" on the remote

Update [12/5/2006]

I tried to view some divx files from my 2GB keychain flash drive and it looked absolutely amazing. The video looked like it came directly from DVD but it was just a divx TV show. The remote is also much nicer than the older model and the unit looks very slick (glass over silver). Overall I'm very happy with it. I'm looking to get one and put it at my in-laws' place.

HowItShouldHaveEnded.com

I saw a new site today which is pretty cool. It basically shows alternate endings of movies. Pretty funny stuff.

DivX.Com

Along the same lines DivX released a new version of their codec and player with support for HD which allows you to view and create videos in full 1920x1080 HD quality.

Gadgets.revlisoft.com

It's an amazon store with some of my favorite products. There's a limit of 9 items but they are coming out with a new version that allows you to put over 54 items. I'll also post info about some of the things i'm looking into at the moment.

Firefox 2.0

Well... I just saw firefox 2.0 and I gotta say this new version is awesome. It's not just the browser by itself but the wonderful plugins available including the cool themes.

Some of my favorites include

  • Firefox extension backup
  • Flashblock
  • Forecastfox
  • FoxyTunes
  • Gmail Space
  • VideoDownloader
  • Yoono

Check it out if you have a chance!

Welcome!

I know it's a cliche post but I've always been a big Microsoft fan and this will be my first Microsoft blog post! :)
